拍品描述

Ca. 20th century AD. >A palm wine vessel formed from a natural gourd, its rounded body rising to a distinctive arched neck that curves forward to form a pouring spout. The elegant, continuous curve of the neck contrasts with the broad, stable body, creating a balanced and sculptural form. Gourds of this type were widely used in Cameroon and across Central Africa for the storage and serving of palm wine, a fermented beverage tapped from palm trees. Natural gourds were valued for their durability and light weight, making them practical containers for everyday use. > >Size: 290mm x 250mm; Weight: 425g >Provenance: Prince Collection, 1990s-2014; ex Jacaranda Tribal Art; ex Marc Ginzberg collection. > >
