拍品描述

Ca. 20th century AD. >A vessel formed from a natural gourd with a curved spout-like neck, the body bound with vertical fibre cords and secured to a woven wicker base. The neck fitted with braided fibre bindings and a looped handle. Vessels of this type were traditionally used for the storage and serving of palm wine, a fermented beverage widely consumed across West and Central Africa. The fibre bindings and basketry base provide structural support and stability, while the elongated neck allows controlled pouring. > >Size: 610mm x 290mm; Weight: 1.25kg >Provenance: Prince Collection, 1990s-2014; ex Jacaranda Tribal Art; ex Marc Ginzberg collection.> This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. >
