A MODERN 'BARCELONA' SETTEE INSPIRED BY A DESIGN BY LUDWIG MIES VAN DER ROHE (GERMAN, 1886-1969)Black leather, with chromed metal base78cm high, 186cm long, 75cm deepThe Barcelona chair is a true icon of Modernist furniture design and easily one of the most recognised designs of the 20th Century. Designed by Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe in 1929 for the German Pavilion at the Exposicion Internacional de Barcelona, the Barcelona Chair was even used as a throne for King Alfonso XIII at the exhibition's opening ceremony. Though Mies Van Der Rohe never designed a settee version, the Barcelona chair is certainly the inspiration for this settee version.
