A GEORGE III SILVER OVAL PEDESTAL TUREEN AND COVER SEBASTIAN & JAMES CRESPELL, LONDON 1774With a bud finial to the foliate chased domed cover, beaded borders and engraved with a crest, the body with twin reeded scroll handles, a husk and medallion band, on a conforming oval pedestal foot45cm long3076g (98.9 oz)The crest with the impaled arms of Henry HOBHOUSE Esq (1742-1792) of Hadspen House, Somerset and his wife Sarah JENKYNS (1746-1777). They were married in 1775 at the church of St Cuthbert, Wells, Somerset. Henry HOBHOUSE was the son of Henry HOBHOUSE (1714-1773) by his wife Jane BANNISTER (born 1715). This branch of the HOBHOUSE family are descended from Henry HOBHOUSE, brother of John HOBHOUSE Esq, of Westbury College, Gloucestershire.Sarah JENKYNS was born at Wells, Somerset the daughter of Revd. Richard WELLS (1714-1773) residual cannon of Wells, rector of Lullington and vicar of Burnham, Somerset by his wife Elizabeth BRYANT (1720-1753) daughter and heir of John BRYANT as well as heir to the GEORGE family in her maternal line. The JENKINS family were senior churchmen at Wells for many generations.
