A GEORGE III SILVER SHAPED CIRCULAR SALVERMATTHEW BOULTON & JOHN FOTHERGILL, BIRMINGHAM 1773With a beaded border, engraved with an armorial and on four shell feet38cm diameter1414g (45.5 oz) Provenance:By descent in the Hobhouse family at Hadspen House, Somerset.These are the arms of John (Swinfen) TURTON (1746-1824) of Sugnall Hall, Eccleshall, Staffordshire and his wife Anna Maria MEYSEY (1754-1838). They were married at Claines, Worcestershire in 1774. John (Swinfen) TURTON was born at Sugnall, Staffordshire the son of John TURTON of Sugnall Hall and his wife Mabella SWINFEN (1712-1773) daughter and heir of Francis SWINFEN (1638-1693) MD of Shrewsbury, descended of SWINFEN of Swinfen Hall, Staffordshire and his wife Jane DOUGHTY (1645-1716). The TURTON family, at the time of the Herald's visitation for Staffordshire in 1663, were recorded of West Bromwich.Anna Maria MEYSEY was the daughter and co-heir of Revd. Thomas MEYSEY (1710-1762) rector of Pirton Worcestershire and his wife Mary BIBB (1717-1771). The MESYSEY where descended in many generations of Worcestershire and were lately of Shakenhurst, Worcestershire.
