A large pair of Japanese Imari vases and covers, Edo Period, Late 17th or early 18th century, each of baluster form, decorated in iron-red and brown enamels and gilt on underglaze blue, with shaped panels depicting ho-o birds and deer, all on a scrolling foliate ground with ho-o birds, enriched with gilding and ruyi-shaped panels, the covers surmounted by a karashishi (lion dog) on a rockwork base, approximately 73 cm high (2) 品相： one vase with body broken and in several pieces and now glued and with losses around the breaks and the other vases with pieces off and glued back to the rim of the vase and both covers and finials with extensive restoration
