A good pair of Japanese Arita cylindrical vases, circa 1670-1690, the three vertical panels painted with a peony in a vase, willow trees and Chrysanthemum, with covers possibly contemporary, the vases 31cm high and with the covers 36cm high (2) Compare with a related Arita vase, illustrated in Porcelain in Palaces: The Fashion for Japan in Europe, 1650-1750, Japanese edition by John Ayers, Oliver Impey, J.V.G. Mallet, 1990, p. 107 品相: one vase with crack to neck interior running mainly along the line of where the neck was joined to the bod of the vase and not visible on the exterior and this vase with firing crack in foot rim and glaze chip to foot other minor firing blemishes throughout and the other vase with crack through base and running up one side with overall length of crack approximately 20cm and one cover with semi circular piece glued to rim approximately 3cm long x 1cm and with other minor chips to inner rims of covers
