Emerging in the late 19th century, this style responded to the Industrial Revolution. It was rebelling against a culture that prioritised mechanisation over craftsmanship. Instead, the movement sought to reunite art with labour, celebrating the skill of the artisan and the integrity of natural materials. Morris & Co., established in 1861, became a pioneer of this vision. The firm produced everything from furniture and textiles to wallpaper and stained glass, each piece reflecting a commitment to both aesthetic revival and social responsibility.
