Y A Japanese Shibayama Inlaid Gold Lacquer Tray, late Meiji Period.of lobed, rectangular form, the centre decorated in tones of gold takamakie and hiramakie with nashiji details and ivory inlays, depicting seven Rakkan, each with his attribute (tiger, dragon, incense bowl etc.), the border with Imperial Aoi-Mon amid scrolling foliage, later inlaid with an ivory monogram T.J., the reverse in nashiji lacquer, approximately 61cms by 44cmsProvenance:Sir Thomas Jackson Bt. former chief manager of HSBC, circa 1876-1902 and by direct family descent. Sir Thomas was created a Baronet, 24th July 1902, of Stansted House, in the parish of Stansted, in the county of Essex.
