A Chinese Jacquard loom weave blue ground silk Dragon robe or Jifu, 19th century, 140cm hem to collar x 217cm cuff to cuffThese dragon robes were most likely woven for court Mandarins. The jacquard loom appeared in China from the west in the 1850-70s. These looms arrived in Shanghai at the treaty ports and were put into use and it is quite possible these dragon robes were considered very much the height of fashion showing the advancement of the industrial era in China. 清十九世紀 藍地織金龍紋吉服袍 品相: staining to robe and lining to areas of the hem and some fraying to edges
