Universal Dictionary of Simple Drugs in English, a foundational pharmaceutical text authored by Nicolas Lemery(1645–1715), a distinguished chemist and apothecary whose works significantly shaped 17th and 18th-century pharmacology, making this book a rare historical collectible. This comprehensive reference defines and describes medicinal substances of animal, vegetable, and mineral origin, detailing their nomenclature, origins, properties, preparation, and medical uses. Third edition, revised and enlarged, with figures printed from copper plates in 1698. Illustrated with engraved portrait frontispiece and copperplate figures. Title printed in red and black. Bound in contemporary full calf with raised bands and gilt-decorated spine compartments; red-stained page edges. A substantial scientific volume representative of 1600s European medical scholarship.
