The shallow rounded sides rising to wide everted rims, each decorated to the center with the initials “DCLS” formed by slender blossoming vines, all encircled by a gilt bamboo band entwined with fruit and floral sprays, the rim similarly adorned with alternating famille-rose-enameled and slip-decorated floral sprigs. (Diameter 8 3/4 inches) Made for the Swedish botanist Carl von Linné (Karl Linnaaes, 1707-1778), by repute. For similar decoration of a cup and saucer ordered by Linné, see Oriental Ceramics.
