AFTER FELIX LECOMTE (1757-1817), A LARGE WHITE MARBLE BUST OF QUEEN MARIE ANTOINETTE FRENCH, LATE 19TH CENTURY 74cm high Together with an ebonised pedestal, 111cm high Provenance: The bust Christie's London, 13th September 2018, Lot 113The pedestal acquired from Anthony Outred, London, July 1999The original model for this bust of Marie-Antoinette, wearing a bas-relief medallion of Louis XVI, was copied from the original exhibited at the 1783 Salon by the sculptor Felix Lecomte a pupil of Étienne Maurice Falconet. It was popularised in the 19th century by the version executed in the 1840s for Versaille's Galeries Historiques established by Louis-Philippe (d.1848).
