By the National Library Company in New York. This limited edition set is marked as No. 65 of one thousand, with armorial bookplate of Robert Clarence Pruyn affixed to the inside front cover. Bound in marbled boards with three-quarter calfskin, and issued in four volumes. Each volume features decorative red-and-black title pages, portrait and gilt top edges. Translated into English with analyses and introductions by Benjamin Jowett, M.A., Master of Balliol College, Oxford and Regius Professor of Greek at the University of Oxford. Published by the National Library Company, New York, in early 1900s. Solidly bound with clean, lightly age toned pages, mild external wear, in overall very good antique condition consistent with age and handling. Please refer to the photos for more details. Provenance: From the estate and heirs of Robert Clarence Pruyn (1847–1934), American inventor, banker, businessman, and politician; son of Robert Hewson Pruyn, who was the Minister to Japan as appointed by Abraham Lincoln, and founder of Albany Law School; a member of one of Albany’s oldest and most prominent Dutch families in New York.
