An exceptional Flemish triptych with the Crucifixion theme, ca. 1500, oil on oak This fine house altar piece depicts the Crucifixion theme, with the town of Middelburg in the background. The Crucified Christ, backed by a pack of dark clouds, is accompanied by his Mother, Mary Magdalene and John the Evangelist. The two wing panels each represent a female donor, accompanied by Saint Catherine of Alexandria on the left and Saint Mary of Egypt on the right. The backsides of the wing panels depict the Annunciation theme centred by the Holy Spirit in grisaille.
