Gilt .950 Silver Two-Handled Bowl. A French Empire gilt .950 silver two-handled bowl by the Parisian silversmith Jacques Henri Fauconnier, dating to the Consulate and early Empire period, circa 1797–1809. The shallow circular bowl is gilded and embellished with stipple engraved laurel leaf borders. The bowl is flanked by double snake form handles. It is raised on a baluster form stem, initialed "MB" within a matted shield, and supported by a square base resting on lion’s paw and acanthus form supports. Stamped to the underside of the base with the mark of the Association des Orfèvres, a pictorial guarantee mark for medium-sized objects (Paris), and the maker’s mark of Jacques Henri Fauconnier. The bowl further bears the first standard pictorial purity mark, indicating .950 silver, along with an additional Paris guarantee mark for medium-sized objects. Total approx. weight is 33.33 troy oz (gross). From a White Plains, NY estate.
