A signed Japanese wakizashi, housed in a black lacquered saya (scabbard) adorned with a Settsu-Ikeda branch mon. The blade appears to bear the signature Hizen Koku Ju Fujiwara Tadahiro. It is mounted with a gold foil-wrapped double layered habaki, an iron tsuba decorated with a dragon motif retaining traces of gilt, and a matching fuchi and kashira depicting lotus flowers, also with remnants of gilt. The tsuka is traditionally wrapped and fitted with a pair of menuki. From a Scarsdale, NY estate. Dimensions: Cutting edge approximately 17.75 inches; overall blade length approximately 23 inches; mihaba approximately 30 mm. 品相: Sword exhbits wear consistent with age.
