An archaic pale green and brown jade cong, Neolithic period, Qijia culture

Chinese Jades from the Ralph Wanger Collection Width 3 in., 7.5 cm Strikingly beautiful in its pale green stone with deep brown veining, the present lot is a superb example from the Qijia culture. For closely related cong in a similar style but taller in proportion, see two excavated from the Gansu province and included in Gu Fang, The Complete Collection of Jades Unearthed in China, vol. 15 Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Beijing, 2005, pls 31 and 38.
