拍品描述

the base impressed with a three-character seal mark reading zhi ben tang (Hall of the Roots of Plants) Diameter 7 in., 17.8 cm Qing dynasty scholar Chen Liu mentioned in his Taoya (Pottery Refinements) that the mark Zhiben Tang ('Hall of the Roots of Plants') was mostly used for ‘tea-dust’ glazed wares in the Jiaqing and Daoguang periods of the Qing dynasty. Compare a similar stemcup with the same mark in the Percival David Foundation at The British Museum (accession no. PDF,A.570) and published by Rosemary Scott in Illustrated Catalogue of Ming and Qing Monochrome Wares in the Percival David Foundation of Chinese Art, London, 1989, p. 40; see another example with the same mark, sold in our London rooms, 9th June 2004, lot 204. A larger tea-dust stembowl of this form with the same seal mark from the Yokogawa Collection in the Tokyo National Museum is illustrated in Sekai tôji zenshû, vol. 12, Tokyo, 1956, fig. 65.
