Indian Dhokra Bronze Muria People, Bastar, Chhattisgarh, Central India Deity Possibly 19th century, Indian This large and impressive cast bronze using the dhokra, a lost wax process, tradition. The back two arms hold an arched shape with two three dimensional tigers to top center. The head featuring an elaborate headdress with elongated earrings, nose pierced to both sides, wearing an intricately cast bronze necklace, arm bands, skirt, anklets, and bare feet. The two forward hands with cone shaped Flower and the other hand with a fan shaped object. Cast in two large pieces, from the waist up one casting and from the waist down a second casting. Hair is braided into a large bun with three braids hanging down the back. Finely incised lines to exposed body. Two tiered base with three dimensional animal heads coming from left and right sides with fish in their mouth. The front bottom of the base features raised lizard and turtle designs. Top of base with chiseled lines running from left to right. Cataloguer's Note: Mark believes this piece is from the 19th century, and of a large size and rare subject.
