Unusual Silver Inlaid Bronze Japanese Vase w/ Calligraphy Meiji period, Japanese Very unusual silver inlaid bronze japanese vase with calligraphy. Wide-mouth flared vase with engraved scenes, one of figure under a tree with three panels of glass script calligraphy. The next scene is a young boy playing with a crouching tiger on a mountain side with five rows of calligraphy. The third scene is a Chinese robed scholar with fruit and coral planter teaching a small child with four columns of calligraphy. This is a very unique example because the figures are in silver and with burnished patinas of red highlights. In the body of the vase with fine areas of green raised patina copying Chinese archaic bronze. Mark has never seen another vase with this technique, and considers this to be a true masterpiece of Japanese bronze work.
