Impressive Large 18th Cent. Chinese Gilt Cloisonne Lobed Shaped Vase Late 18th century, Chinese A large and impressive Chinese gilt cloisonne lobed shaped vase. This vase with a unique design includes hand-fabrication with gilt rims, gilt base, and gilt cloisonne wirework. At the top of the neck there are overlapping bat motifs with small clouds above. Hanging from the bats wings and mouth are chimes with tassels and hanging flower baskets. This design completely covers the neck. At the shoulder there are scrolling lotus designs with a pair of bats and Chinese characters. This design is followed through onto every section around the shoulder. Next band is ryu-shaped panels interlocking with butterfly and scrolling design. Below this band are are four larger panels. One featuring tree branches with birds, butterflies, flowers, and vines. The next panel features magnolia trees with blooms and buds, and a bird perched on a branch. The third panel with branches of peonies in bloom and smaller flower with berries or bloom clusters. Final panel with blue and white scholar's rock, chrysanthemums in multiple colors, and a butterfly flying above. These panels stopping above an additional border of lappets done in red, green, and blue. The final band above the gilt foot is a scrolling lotus pattern. The bottom with an old Sotheby's NY green tag LOT 396 plus a collector's number in small green tag 37, and shipper's label reading 5-38. The bottom foot is gilt to the interior and underneath sides with excellent old patina, this also shows that this vase is fabricated with three different layers of copper. Please see foot close ups. Cataloguer's Note: Based on the color of the enamel, the weight of the vase, the quality of the gilding, and the design, Mark dates this vase to the late 18th century, Qianlong period.
