Large Matched Pair of Japanese Cloisonne Vases by Ando Jubei Meiji-Taisho period, Japanese This is a fine pair of matched light green field Japanese cloisonne vases with white chrysanthemums blooming on green, blue, and black leaf covered stems. The bottom and top rims are silver mounted and stamped "Junjin (pure silver)" on foot rim. The rare mark is in an oval with three characters on a red background and silver, which translates to "Jubei" w/ a seal "Ando Kinsei (respectfully made by Ando)". Cataloguer's Note: For the same signature, see Frederic T Schneider, "The Art of Japanese Cloisonne Enamel: History, Techniques, and Artists 1600 to Present", Jefferson NC, McFarland & Co., Inc, 2010, page 241, no. 007. This pair of vases comes with a green round Sotheby's York Avenue Galleries sticker numbered 282/2, meaning it is a pair. They retain their original hardwood stands with Ando label to one stand, stating in both Japanese and English "J Ando Cloisonne ware Tokyo Nagoya Japan". Ando Jubei also produced many pieces for the Japanese Royal Family for presentation.
