Masterpiece Burmese Bronze Maha Bandula Sitthugyi Late 19th century to early 20th century, Burmese This 19th-century Burmese cast-bronze sculpture (ca. 1875–1925) depicts the legendary General Maha Bandula in full armor, poised on horseback with a spear raised mid-throw. The base features an inscription identifying him as "Bandula – Sitthugyi Or. Commander-in-Chief" and credits the artist, Mg. Tha Din Pecu. Bronze is mounted onto wooden pedestal with original hand-made screws and bolts. Cataloguer's Notes: General Maha Bandula (1782–1825) was the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Burmese Armed Forces during the Konbaung dynasty. Though his expansionist campaigns in Manipur and Assam helped trigger the First Anglo-Burmese War, he remains a revered national hero. Falling in action against the British in 1825, he is honored today as a symbol of resistance, with many of Myanmar's most prominent landmarks bearing his name. Mark says: "This is one of the finest chased Burmese bronzes I have handled".
