Rare Large Japanese Totai Shippo Cloisonne on Porcelain Covered Jar Late 19th century, Japanese This large and magnificent piece is made with a rare technique of wirework and enamel applied to porcelain. There was only a short period of manufacture in Japan of this type of work. This piece is signed "Dai Nihon Kaiyosha Sei Zo". This artists works are in the Smithsonian museum and museums in Japan. Kaiyosha's workshop was located in Nagoya Japan (1878-1885). Bottom foot of jar is under-glazed blue porcelain white the field of jar has scrolling vines with three colors of brown and fine wirework. There are large round medallions depicting bats, clouds, paulownia flower, one with three butterflies, additional one with Chidori birds with crashing waves. Lid has matching medallions, interior painted with blue and white flowers and leaves.
