Rare 19th Cent. Indian Mughal 22k Gold Navaratna Ganesha Pendant 19th century, Indian Rare 19th century Indian Mughal 22k gold navratna ganesha pendant. Center stone of carved coral as Ganesha. Ganesha, the beloved elephant-headed deity and son of Shiva and Parvati, is widely revered as the remover of obstacles and the patron of wisdom, prosperity, and new beginnings. The lobed oval shaped gold construction with coral carved in fine detail as a cameo of Ganesha, surrounded by small turquoise stones with larger jeweled stones with two leaf form gold shaped mounted stones to sides. Each side with large gold jump ring cord holder. Back and sides of gold sheet with nice patina and wear. Very high quality of piece of old Indian gold jewelry. Total weight: 24.23 dwt/ 37.6 g. Cataloguer's Note: Navaratna (Sanskrit for "nine gems") is a traditional jewelry style deeply rooted in the culture of South and Southeast Asia. Beyond being a symbol of wealth and status, these pieces are often worn as talismans believed to improve health and well-being. The significance of the setting comes from its connection to the Navagrahas—the nine celestial gods or planets in Hindu, Jain, and Buddhist astrology. By arranging these stones together, the jewelry is thought to harness mystical powers tied to the cosmos.
