An elegant Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock print after the celebrated Edo-period master Suzuki Harunobu (1725?1770), titled Woman Holding a Lantern Beneath Blossoming Branches. Harunobu is one of the most important innovators in the history of Japanese printmaking and the artist credited with pioneering nishiki-e (full-color brocade prints) in the mid-18th century. The composition depicts a graceful young woman standing on a veranda at night, delicately holding a small lantern suspended from a slender rod while gazing upward toward a flowering branch overhead.
