An original Ho Ippitsu (Early 20th Century) Japanese Nihonga, floral scroll painting depicting Peonies, morning glories, lilies, and horsetails, which is a four-season floral ensemble, all are arranged harmoniously around a small earth mound or slope, which helps anchor the composition and evokes the poetic idea of flowers thriving in the wild. It is in the decorative style of nihonga with delicate mineral pigments on silk. This scroll is circa 1910-1930. It is mounted in pale gold and blue floral brocade, which is typical for late Meiji?Taish_ scrolls. The choice of light green and ivory fabrics perfectly complements the soft hues of the painting, giving an air of refined calmness, which is ideal for display in a tokonoma alcove, especially in spring or early summer. The title and chop are in the lower, right corner. The entire scroll measures 23.5 inches X 75.5 inches. This scroll was acquired from a Metro Washington DC estate.
