An exhibition poster that was produced to accompany the landmark exhibition?Twelve Centuries of Japanese Art from the Imperial Collections, featuring masterworks from the Japanese Imperial Household Collection. These pieces and other objects are rarely lent outside Japan. This exhibition poster was issued by the?Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Smithsonian Institution, 1997. The underlying piece is by Kan_ Tany_ (1602?1674) and is titled Views of the Ide Tama River and the Oi River from the Japanese Edo period, 17th century. It was one of a pair of six-panel folding screens. The poster features elegant typography framed by vertical red bands referencing traditional screen panel divisions. Professionally double-matted and housed in a gold-toned frame. Smithsonian exhibition posters documenting major international loan exhibitions remain desirable among collectors of Asian art, museum memorabilia, and decorative prints.
