An original Kojo (20th Century) Japanese hanging scroll painted in ink on silk and mounted in a traditional three-section silk brocade format. The painting depicts a serene rural scene of a cluster of thatched farmhouses nestled among trees beside a gently sloping landscape. Mist or early morning haze envelops the background, creating depth through tonal washes of ink. A tall tree anchors the right side, with elegant brush handling showing both trunk texture and fine foliage. A mountain or large hill fades into the mist in the far distance, painted with a dry, almost calligraphic stroke. The entire composition has a calm, meditative balance, This is the kind of ?quiet landscape? (shinkei) favored by literati painters. It is Likely Kyoto or Osaka region, and circa 1910?1930, based on paper tone, mounting fabric, and stylistic traits. The title and chop are in the lower, right corner.
