An original and lively Japanese ukiyo-e color woodblock print by the celebrated Edo-period master Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797?1861) titled Warrior Procession with Banners and Drummers. Kuniyoshi is one of the most dynamic and influential artists of the Utagawa School and a leading designer of dramatic warrior and historical prints. The composition depicts a large procession of samurai and retainers assembled along a riverbank, carrying tall ceremonial banners and standards while attendants and musicians beat drums amid the gathering. Warriors wearing patterned garments and armor cluster in animated groups, while others advance forward with swords drawn. In the background, a river landscape with bridges and distant buildings situates the scene within a lively Edo-period setting. Kuniyoshi became famous for powerful compositions illustrating samurai heroes, historical battles, and legendary warriors drawn from Japanese history and literature. His prints are celebrated for their energetic figures, complex group scenes, and theatrical storytelling, and they remain among the most sought-after works in the field of ukiyo-e. The signature within the design reads Ichiy_sai Kuniyoshi ga, meaning ?drawn by Ichiy_sai Kuniyoshi, ?one of the artist?s best-known studio names used during his career. This piece is an original Japanese impression and was produced mid-19th century (c. 1840?1860). This piece was examined outside of the frame and it has light toning and handling wear that is consistent with age. It has an overall strong decorative presentation. This piece is double matted and framed under acrylic in a gold toned, wooden frame. With frame, this measures 14.5 inches x 16.5 inches.
