拍品描述
A beautiful, original mid-19th century ukiyo-e triptych by?Utagawa Kunisada (Toyokuni III, 1786?1865), who is one of Japan?s most celebrated woodblock print masters. This complete three-panel scene, titled??Kamakura Goten Keiga no Zu?,?or Celebratory Scene at the Kamakura Palace, depicts an elegant ceremonial gathering inside a noble residence, filled with richly dressed courtiers, attendants, and architectural detail. Kunisada?s composition is dynamic and theatrical, with the refined blues, peach tones, and expressive faces characteristic of his late Edo-period work. The triptych dates to the mid-1850s, confirmed by the?Aratame censor seal?and the?publisher imprint of Wakasaya Yoichi, a well-known Edo publisher of high-quality kabuki and historical prints. The block cutter?s seal,?Asakura Hori Man, further supports the print?s authenticity and craftsmanship. This triptych retains strong linework and pleasing color for its age. The triptych is handsomely presented in a contemporary frame with a wide mat, ready to display. The entire piece is matted and framed under glass and it measures 22.5 inches x 36 inches. This piece was acquired from a Metro Washington DC estate., 22.5IN x 36IN (57cm x 91cm), LOT REF #25-1160
