A Chinese scroll painting titled Along the River During the Qingming Festival. This piece is after the original which first produced between 1085-1145, and is attributed to?Zhang Zeduan. This is a modern reproduction handscroll, likely produced in?China or Taiwan, probably between?1970?1980. It is silk-mounted and housed in a?brocade-covered storage box. It is printed in high-resolution ink on specialty paper and it is accompanied by a?calligraphic colophon?(postscript) and?artist seal. This scroll is a panoramic document of daily life in the capital city?Bianjing (today Kaifeng)?during the Qingming Festival. It follows the festival in the rural outskirts and crowded markets. It shows the famous?Rainbow Bridge, and all of the shops, vendors, boats, inns, teahouses, with hundreds of detailed human figures. The scroll is valued both as art and as a historical record of urban life 1,000 years ago. This scroll measures?16 inches x 159 inches?(over 13 feet long), making it approximately?1:1 scale?with many 20th-century deluxe editions. There is no creasing and no toning. The subject, format and lack of toning indicate that this was made in the late 1900s.
