An antique original Japanese woodblock print by Tsukioka Kogyo (1869-1927) titled Takasago from the series One Hundred N_h Plays (N_gaku Hyakuban). This print illustrates a scene from the Noh play Takasago. K_gy_?s celebrated series?N_gaku Hyakuban?(One Hundred Noh Plays) is a landmark publication documenting Japan?s most classical theatrical tradition with exceptional accuracy and elegance. This particular composition depicts a?Noh actor?in formal performance pose, clad in an elaborate?pink patterned robe?adorned with cloud and phoenix motifs. The figure holds a?folding fan, an essential symbolic prop in Noh drama. The actor?s mask-like face, controlled posture, and restrained movement reflect the meditative and ceremonial nature of Noh performance. A minimal background directs full attention to costume, gesture, and form?hallmarks of K_gy_?s mature style. This print is an original from the Taish_ period, 1922-26.
