This classic Edo-period (circa 1810-1825) ukiyo-e woodblock print depicts an elegant courtesan rendered in the refined bijin-ga style of Kikugawa Eizan, one of the leading followers of Kitagawa Utamaro. The elongated proportions, graceful contrapposto stance, and flowing kimono adorned with bold geometric patterning exemplify Eizan?s sophisticated approach to feminine beauty. The figure?s elaborate coiffure, ornamented with multiple hairpins, reflects contemporary fashions of the Bunka?Bunsei era. Fine, confident linework and restrained coloration emphasize elegance over narrative, a hallmark of Eizan?s mature work. Artist signature and publisher marks are visible, consistent with authentic early-19th-century impressions. Eizan?s bijin-ga prints were highly sought after during his lifetime and remain desirable today for their balance of classical refinement and emerging late-Edo aesthetics.
