This scroll was painted in 1880-1910. The tiger is shown mid-roar, with bared teeth, extended claws, and carefully articulated striping, conveying power, vigilance, and latent movement. These are hallmarks of Japanese tiger painting inspired by Chinese pictorial traditions.
