拍品描述
A finely detailed Chinese landscape painting in the classical?shan shui?(mountain-and-water) tradition, titled on the storage box, ?Playing the Qin While Visiting a Friend?. The composition depicts a poetic mountain scene with pine-covered cliffs rising above a mist-filled expanse of water. Scholars traverse a bridge below, journeying toward a secluded pavilion nestled among trees. In the distance, boats drift across calm waters toward an island crowned with temple structures, while birds sweep across the sky. The subject reflects traditional literati ideals of cultivated friendship, music, and retreat into nature. Executed in ink and mineral pigments on silk, the work employs structured brush outlines, rhythmic stippling for foliage and cliff texture, and a harmonious palette of ochre ground and mineral greens. The composition draws inspiration from Song dynasty landscape models while reflecting the refined studio techniques associated with mid-20th-century Chinese academic and workshop production. An inscription and red seal appear at upper left. The presentation box bears the marking: ?Made in the People?s Republic of China,? placing production after 1949. Overall very good decorative condition. Minor creasing to the upper mounting silk consistent with storage. Light age toning. No significant tears or repairs observed. Presentation box shows surface wear and moisture spotting consistent with age. Acquired from a Metro Washington DC estate.
