A decorative matching pair of Chinese ancestor portrait hanging scrolls, depicting a seated Qing dynasty court official and his consort in formal court attire. The male figure is shown wearing a traditional red Qing official hat, black ceremonial robe, and court bead necklace, seated upon a carved chair draped with a tiger skin, symbolizing authority and rank. His robe bears a mandarin rank badge featuring a crane, traditionally associated with high-ranking civil officials. The female portrait presents an elegantly dressed noblewoman wearing an elaborate phoenix crown and richly embroidered red ceremonial robe, adorned with multiple court bead necklaces and finely detailed garments. Both figures are depicted in the classic frontal ancestor portrait format, a style historically commissioned by Chinese families to commemorate ancestors and to display during ancestral rites. The backgrounds feature finely rendered garden landscapes, flowering branches, and auspicious birds, elements associated with prosperity, harmony, and scholarly refinement. The scrolls retain their traditional silk brocade mounts and wooden rollers and are housed in a decorative brocade-covered storage box with handwritten calligraphy. Export labels reading “Hand Painting Made in China” indicate mid-20th century production in traditional style. This set has a good overall presentation.
