拍品描述

1916. New York. Doubleday, Page and Company, publisher. A cohesive early 20th-century authorized collected edition of short stories by?O. Henry?(William Sydney Porter, 1862?1910), one of America?s most celebrated masters of the short story form. Issued in 1916, several years after the author?s death, this uniform edition was produced to meet continued popular demand for O. Henry?s witty, ironic, and character-driven tales of urban life. His stories are renowned for their clever narrative twists and vivid portrayals of early 20th-century New York and American society. The volumes include many of his most enduring works, originally published between 1904 and 1909, and represent a significant early collected printing of his fiction. Uniformly bound in dark green cloth with gilt titling and decorative spine stamping, the set presents attractively for shelf display and forms a desirable early American literary grouping. Bindings structurally sound with moderate shelf wear to spine ends and extremities. Gilt spine lettering remains legible. Minor scuffing noted to cloth on select volumes. Interiors show light age toning consistent with early 20th-century paper. Overall?Very Good condition. Acquired from a Metro Washington DC estate.
