拍品描述

901. New York. Charles Scribner’s Sons, publisher. A handsome grouping from Scribner’s 1901 anthology series collecting short fiction by notable late 19th-century American authors. Issued at the height of the American short story tradition, the series reflects the flourishing literary culture of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era. Contributors represented in the series include writers such as Lucretia P. Hale, Frances Hodgson Burnett, George Parsons Lathrop, Celia Thaxter, Brander Matthews, and others associated with prominent American literary magazines of the period. Designed for cultured household libraries, the series was produced in uniform cloth binding for decorative and practical shelf display. These volumes form part of Scribner’s broader international anthology project, alongside companion series devoted to English and Foreign authors. Bindings remain structurally sound with moderate shelf wear to spine ends and extremities. Gilt spine lettering and volume numbers remain legible. One volume shows surface scuffing to cloth. Interiors display expected age toning and scattered foxing consistent with early 20th-century paper. Overall Good antique condition. Acquired from a Metro Washington DC estate.
