拍品描述
Oliver Goldsmith's celebrated comedy "She Stoops to Conquer," published by Harper & Brothers, New York, 1887, in its original deluxe full leather publisher's binding with elaborate gilt decoration throughout. This highly desirable illustrated edition features the work of renowned American artist Edwin A. Abbey (1852?1911), one of the foremost figures of the Golden Age of Illustration and later a member of the Royal Academy. Produced as a luxury gift-book edition, the volume contains a suite of mounted full-page Abbey illustrations, including finely rendered period interior scenes and character studies reproduced from Abbey's original drawings of 1884?1885. The illustrations retain exceptional clarity and tonal depth, demonstrating the artistry that established Abbey as one of the most celebrated book illustrators of the Victorian era. Decorative embellishments by Alfred Parsons and an introduction by Austin Dobson further elevate the edition. The binding itself is a work of Victorian book design, executed in richly gilt-tooled leather with elaborate floral borders, ornamental paneling, and gilt titling. The volume remains an impressive display piece, combining literary significance, fine illustration, and decorative craftsmanship in a single publication. This book was acquired from a Metro Washington DC estate. FREE SHIPPING FOR THIS BOOK SET WITHIN THE CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
