Period Qing Dynasty, 19th century (the candles probably cast at a later date) Description Three four-part candle moulds. Made of a dense hardwood, the interior carved with a continuous pattern of a five-clawed dragon among clouds, chasing a flaming pearl, with a Greek-key border along the top and base edge. The exteriors have a smooth flat surface. Herewith several finished candles (from different moulds with a similar design). Dimensions H 22.2 cm and 19.7 cm Literature A similar candle is held in the British Museum London.
