Period First half 20th century Description The fan with scholars in a landscape (clear back): Artist; named Shen Xiang. The fan with blossom: Artist Zhou Zhao Xiang (1880-1954), dated ji mao, 1939. The fan with a landscape and poem on the back: Hu Peiheng and (calligraphy) Huang Jie 1873- 1935. Hu Peiheng (June 1892 – March 1962). 冷庵胡佩衡 Leng’an, is the sobriquet (art name) of Hu Peiheng. Mr. Manqu appreciated this fan painted by Leng’an, Hu Peiheng, in the first month of the Wuchen year Hu Peiheng (June 1892 – March 1962), whose genealogical name was Hu Xiquan and who was also known as Hu Heng, had the courtesy name Peiheng and the sobriquet Leng’an. He was also nicknamed “Hu Tuku” and was commonly known by his courtesy name. He served as a professor and lecturer at several important institutions. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, he successively served as an executive council member of the Beijing Chinese Painting Research Association and as a painter and member of the administrative committee of the Beijing Painting Academy.
