拍品描述

Period Tibet, late 19th to early 20th century Description Executed in mineral pigments and gold on cotton, centred by Bhāiṣajyaguru (the Medicine Buddha) in sambhogakāya form, richly adorned with a five-leaf crown and celestial robes, seated in dhyāna upon a lotus pedestal within a mandorla. He holds a pūrṇaghāṭa (vessel of abundance) in his hands, an attribute associated with healing, longevity and prosperity. Surrounding him are concentric registers of diminutive seated Buddhas arranged symmetrically against a vibrant red ground enriched with stylised cloud and floral motifs, forming the canonical “Thousand Buddhas” (Sahasra-buddha) assembly symbolising the manifold manifestations of awakened beings across the kalpas. Mounted within a traditional silk brocade frame in ochre, scarlet and saffron tones. Dimensions Image size: 68.3 x 47.6 cm (including frame: 115 x 76 cm)
