An album with fourteen fine paintings on silk

Period Late Qing Dynasty Description According to an enclosed French translation these paintings belonged to general Yuan Shaoming, nephew of the first president of the Republic of China and Emperor Hung Hsien (Hong Xian). The paintings were supposedly painted by Mr Shiao Ch'ih (Xiao Chi) and title characters were calligraphed by Yu Shou-t'ung (Yu Shoutong). The paintings are loose unrelated depictions of daily activities, such as two neighbours chatting about the cold weather, three workers with their ox on their way to plough the land and a woman showing the way to pick mulberry leaves to feed the silk worms. Each with a short calligraphic text and on the right page a larger text. Also at the beginning and end several pages of calligraphy. Dimensions The album 42 x 37 cm
