Period Song Dynasty (960-1127) Description The centre of the interior is relief-decorated with two small fish, all under a glaze of sea-green colour. A pair of fish is a traditional symbol of fertility, marital harmony, and happiness, and also forms one of the Eight Auspicious Symbols in Buddhism. Dishes of this type, commonly referred to as 'twin fish' dishes, were produced in large numbers at the Longquan kilns from the late Southern Song through the early Ming dynasty. Dimensions D 12.7 cm Condition Report Some firing flaw spots, most noticeably on the exterior side. The interior with an even tone of the glaze and an irregularity in the eye of the fish, possibily from manufacuturing. No defects such as hairlines or chips and no restoration.
