拍品描述

H.: 45,5 cm Edme Samson (1810-91) was a celebrated producer of porcelain and pottery. The ceramics firm Samson, Edme et Cie was established in Paris in 1845 by Edme Samson. He created a successful business of highly Refined ceramics including works inspired by historical masterpieces kept in museums. Samson ceramics in the Islamic style were acquired by major museums in the late 19th C., mostly after the Paris Exhibition of 1889 and the 'Les Arts musulmans' exhibition in 1893. The Victoria and Albert Museum and the Sevres Ceramics Museum house several examples. Samson ceramics were sometimes signed using a variety of signatures, often stemming from a variation of the letter S. As with many other Iznik-style wares, this example bears the Arabic equivalent to the letter S.
