A TURQUOISE GLAZED FAIENCE AMULET OF NEPHTHYS, LATE PERIOD This lot is from a single owner collection and is therefore offered without reserve Egypt, c. 664-332 BC. Finely modeled, the female deity depicted standing on a rectangular base in a dynamic stance, with the left leg slightly advanced in a striding pose and the arms held straight at the sides of the torso. The head, rendered with schematically defined facial features, is framed by hair falling over the shoulders and surmounted by a distinctive headdress in the form of the hieroglyph representing the name of the goddess. The figure is provided with a vertical back support, pierced transversely for suspension. A member of the Great Ennead of Heliopolis, she was the daughter of Geb and Nut and the sister of Isis, Osiris, and Seth. Closely associated with Isis, Nephthys played a central role in funerary rituals as a protector of the deceased and guardian of the mummy. She was also regarded as the consort of Seth. Nephthys embodied a wide range of protective and regenerative functions. Her spheres of influence included mourning, childbirth, healing, embalming, and the care of the dead. She was venerated as a powerful guardian deity whose presence ensured protection, renewal, and safe passage into the afterlife.
