A RARE GREEN FAIENCE MINIATURE AMULET OF ANUBIS, LATE PERIOD-PTOLEMAIC PERIOD This lot is from a single owner collection and is therefore offered without reserve Egypt, c. 664-30 BC. Of flattened form, the jackal-headed deity shown in profile. The anthropomorphic figure standing on large feet, with the torso neatly incised to indicate vestments, and extending upward into a clearly defined canine head, distinguished by an almond-shaped eye, a prominent muzzle, and upright pointed ear emerging from the mane that falls over the shoulders. The abdomen of the figure pierced with a small circular aperture, intended for suspension. Anubis, the jackal-headed god, presided over the embalming process and was also known by the epithet ‘Lord of the Hallowed Ground’, denoting his role as protector of the necropolis. He likewise played a significant part in the judgment of the dead, overseeing the weighing of the heart before Osiris.
