A FINE MINIATURE GREEN FAIENCE AMULET OF ISIS, LATE PERIOD This lot is from a single owner collection and is therefore offered without reserve The Jorgen Ruben Gallery Ledger, entry from 2012: “No. 818, Very small amulet representing Isis. On a wooden base. Egypt, Late Period. Blue green faience. H.: 2.1 cm, BR 2001” Gallery price: EUR 850 or approx. EUR 1,200 adjusted for inflation at the time of writing. Egypt, 664-332 BC. In the form of the goddess Isis, depicted striding atop a rectangular base with her left leg forward and her arms held at her sides, finely modeled with facial features carefully rendered and characteristic headdress. The amulet drilled horizontally through the side for suspension. (2) Isis is one of the most important and enduring goddesses in ancient Egyptian religion, revered as the archetypal mother, wife, and protector. She is celebrated for her roles in magic, healing, and the safeguarding of both the living and the dead, particularly through her association with the resurrection of Osiris and the protection of their son Horus. Depicted in anthropomorphic form, often with a throne or solar headdress, Isis’s imagery embodies both nurturing and potent magical authority, and she was widely venerated across Egypt and into the Ptolemaic and Roman periods.
